When German-born music publisher and composer Victor Kremer laid out Cardiff’s “Composer District” north of Birmingham Drive, he envisioned streets honoring history’s greatest musical minds. However, when the Cardiff Elementary School campus was built, the construction displaced both Bach Avenue and Beethoven Avenue (as seen in the historic map below). While Bach Ave was re-established, Beethoven Avenue has remained missing from our street grid ever since.
You can help rectify this piece of local history. Sign our petition to rename M Street—located between Summit and Belleview Avenues—to Beethoven Boulevard, honoring the legendary composer ahead of the 200th anniversary of his passing. We are also petitioning to name a portion Sprague Way in honor of local jazz legend and Encinitas resident Peter Sprague.
